Ugly Betty- Editing

As many die hard Ugly Betty fans know, yes they are many be fewer than before, Ugly Betty has officially been canceled. While this new may sadden only a few, Ugly Betty has put a new look in prime time TV.
While the focus of Ugly Betty remains on Betty the unfashionable worker at a fashion magazine, the show puts a pop in the traditional styles of television. This is not a reference to the unique clothes worn on the the show but the use of editing. Ugly Betty incorporates every bold and exaggerated style there is in the book. From elaborate graphic matches to horizontal wipes, Ugly Betty never ceases to stop the elaborate editing, which it should not. Ugly Betty pulls off the unconventional, well extremely unconventional for television, use of editing. The elaborate shifts in scene not only work in Ugly Betty, but rather help define the look. The entire set is filled with bright colors and geometric shapes, and this use of editing helps make these sets pop. If they same techniques were utilized elsewhere on tv, they would come across as odd and outlandish. They would essentially draw attention away from the scene; however, in Ugly Betty, they become the scenes creating a unique piece of the show. The editing in Ugly Betty is the true scene stealer of the show.

"Our eyes will be on Coraline"

Coraline (2009) is the most recent stop motion animation film by Harry Selick. This excellent constructed masterpiece shows stop motion at its best. The film creates an elegant world that extends beyond other stop motion films to create beauty.
Coraline focuses on the title character Coraline as she discovers a new world unlike her own. While wanting to escape her life with distracted, stressed parents, she discovers a world unlike her own that holds its own dark secrets. This leads Coraline in complicated plot to protect more than she ever thought.
This film, while on rated PG, creates a dark world that goes beyond a typical children's film. However, there are still elements in this film that are reminiscent of other stop motion films such as The Nightmare Before Christmas. The film does contain a large focus on the unique, distinctive, and creative nature of the world in the film, which at times overshadows the plot.Nonetheless, Coraline is a distinct and exctive and exciting film full of plot twists that can be enjoyed by many.
